Falmouth Docks & Engineering Company (FDEC), a statutory Harbour Authority owned by A&P Group is situated within one of the largest natural deep-water harbours in the world, an important gateway to the South West of the UK, with the largest ship-repair complex in the UK. The port handles over 100,000 tons of goods annually offering a wide range of port and shipyard services and logistics to a harbour servicing over 1200 commercial shipping movements a year.
GISGRO is a digital platform specializing in streamlining marine operations. After initial discussions, GISGRO set up a custom trial period for FDEC using their own survey data. In under a week the trial was activated, providing value almost immediately.
During the trial period, FDEC used GISGRO to plan the berthing of complex port calls, allowing professional and effective communication with port stakeholders. The client was impressed with how well their requirements were fulfilled, and the ease of the trial process.
“GISGRO invested substantial time for us in setting up the trial account, which allowed us to see the system at work with our own data first – making it clear that this was the right step forward in our Smart Port development”, says Tim Sykes, Marine Operations Manager in A&P Falmouth.
Once the trial period was over, FDEC decided to become a GISGRO client. The GISGRO team worked closely with FDEC to digitize scattered data sources, a process which lasted around three weeks. The client was pleased with the digitization process, noting that the collaboration with GISGRO was seamless.
Today, GISGRO is utilized daily by FDEC marine operations team. Thanks to the good collaboration process with GISGRO, FDEC has realised a significant improvement and efficiency for their marine operations.
“GISGRO allows us to efficiently and easily plan port calls, communicating essential information to our clients and workforce. Whether it be planning fendering requirements, confirming under keel clearance or determining storage areas for laydown the platform is providing valued solutions on a daily basis,” Tim Sykes describes.
“We are pleased to be able to support our customer in their digitalization journey and look forward for collaboration on a broader term”, continues Karri Koistinen, Head of Sales in GISGRO.
With GISGRO, FDEC has digitalized their marine operations process even further, keeping on top with the demands of the industry and maintaining their position as a leader in the field.
