Various GIS tools are in everyday use in ports and harbors. Typically, information such as asset data, maps of the harbor, 3D models, and much more are in different databases and software. Most of the traditional GIS software is quite tricky to use, so you must get comprehensive training to work with them.
Geographical information is an essential part of a seaport’s asset management. Online asset management platforms, such as GISGRO, are designed to simplify GIS utilisation for all working with the harbor asset data.
Read on to know how GISGRO differs from the traditional GIS software available.
1 Map-based user interface
Assets have a certain location in ports. Information related to assets is easier to find when the assets are visualised in a realistic map view.
For example, if you need to find out who’s the owner of a certain warehouse, you don’t need to find the warehouse’s code name or property number, just find it on the map and click it to view the information related to it.
In GISGRO’s map view, you can quickly see and measure if some storage area has enough space and suitable access to roads or rails without trying to compare only the area’s size or coordinates. And you don’t need to go through several subfolders to find the information.
2 Combine 2D, 3D, and asset data into one platform
Often you need different software to handle 2D data, point clouds, and other information needed in the port’s asset management. We decided to combine all of them into one database.
Depending on the task, you can swiftly change the view from a 2D map to a 3D model of the port area.
Examine the location of bollards and cranes in 2D and then take a closer look at the seabed in the quay area in 3D. Measure the amount of bending in older steel sheet walls in 3D view and click open the structural drawings of the quay to figure out the best way for repairs.
3 Save time and money with the easiness of an online platform
Importing data into GISGRO is easy. Just drag and drop the wanted files (for example, point clouds, common vector formats, photographs, PDFs) to your databank.
Exporting is as easy if you need the data to be handled in another software. You can share the information simply by sending an invitation link to join the platform to a colleague or a project team member. This way, you don’t waste time bouncing the information back and forth.
A license fee for an online platform is typically very affordable compared to fees for traditional desktop software. With easy deployment and use, you save time and money and also in reduced training and consulting costs.
